Can't believe another year goes by and I haven't had anything written here as long as I can barely remember.

Got my resident status in June and now I'm free as a bird. Launched my own company for window shades, flooring, lightings. Sushi on-line w/ a friend. Got so many ideas and projects going right now. Hopefully I can end 2011 w/ some pretty orders and bonuses, only a month left!!!

民進黨遭到阿扁綁架，已長達三年。當他把自己塑造成台獨建國者，又把自己形容為中國的頭號敵人時，便已成功地使民進黨內部造成分裂。淪為在野的民進黨近兩年來欲振乏力，正是受到阿扁的強勢牽制。民進黨完全無法施展制衡的力量，便是由於扁案而顧此失彼。無期徒刑的一審宣判之後，民進黨出於無奈，不得不宣稱要力挺阿扁的司法人權。

一再自甘落入阿扁圈套的選擇，必將迫使民進黨打一場不斷輸去的戰役。犯人受到羈押的法律，在阿扁執政時代便已施行有年。多少哀哀無告的百姓受到羈押時，從未聽說民進黨要爭取司法人權。現在民進黨的力挺，是否就在彰顯一般百姓不值一顧，而阿扁的人權特別高貴？

真正的民主政黨，必須通盤考量全國的人權狀況，如今卻只為阿扁一人設想，這符合公平正義的原則嗎？

民進黨已被阿扁欺負太久，到現在還忍氣吞聲，這是對民主政治的最大傷害。在整個綠色執政時期，阿扁藉用政黨名義攫取龐大的政治獻金，並且還大量秘密匯往海外，民進黨為何不能理直氣壯向阿扁討回黨產？要維護政黨倫理，要保衛民主制度，民進黨理應向阿扁家族清算帳目。阿扁以黨產施小惠，早已破壞政黨政治的既有秩序，民進黨卻在不斷忍讓之餘，還要力挺阿扁人權，這是怎樣的民主政治？

阿扁帶給民進黨的傷害還不止於此。三十年來獻身於民主運動者，可謂不計其數。那麼多人被捕被禁被害之後，阿扁是以受惠人的姿態掌握最高權力。對於前人的犧牲奉獻，阿扁從未有感激之心，卻利用職權極盡貪腐之能事。以改革之名換取金錢，以意識形態挑撥族群。長期累積起來的理想願望，在他手中揮霍殆盡。過去的運動前輩是為台灣民主坐牢，阿扁卻宣稱他為吳淑珍坐牢。他的自私偏狹，他的目光如豆，全然視歷史無物。由於不具歷史意識，他已使一九七○年代以降的民主精神遭到摧毀。然而，到今天，民進黨從未正式公開譴責，更沒有為歷史的犧牲者說一句公道話。

在黨內，阿扁竟然被遵奉為「民族英雄」，竟然把他比喻為「耶穌」。這種精神錯亂的思維方式，簡直不能與黨外運動時期的理想連繫起來。如果民進黨樂於如此英勇，就放膽走上街頭，繼續為阿扁聲援。阿扁毀掉民主於先，民進黨繼踵於後，絕對不可能得到台灣人民的尊敬。今天民進黨對阿扁如此同情，等於是對台灣社會特別殘忍。在阿扁被審判無期徒刑，他早已為民進黨宣判死刑了。今天造成國民黨一黨獨大，民進黨還是不能覺醒。

今年五十七歲的吳念真雖然很會拍廣告、很會說故事，但他真在意的是：「台灣越來越沒有這種地方自然凝聚的真情。」他說我們活在一個人與人之間信任越來越稀薄的現實，但在心裡又對過去真情甜美無比眷戀，「而偏偏情義和真情是台灣現在最缺乏的東西。」他想經由戲劇，讓大人重新找到真情，讓小孩可以放肆大笑。談到台灣的未來，他吐了一口長煙，
意味深長地說：「如果小孩子都沒有了笑容，我們這一代這樣拚死拚活的車拚，又有什麼意義？」

１台灣傳統的情感

情感，是台灣最可貴的東西。我有個病態的習慣，我自己也覺得很奇怪，十幾年的老朋友好不容易見面了，分別時說了「再見」，他轉身走了，我下意識會忍不住再回頭，再看一眼他遠去的身影，好好仔細地記住他的背影。因為我很怕，他這轉身一走，就是永別。

這是九份礦坑長大的我，面對人生不測的一種潛意識反應。以前爸爸早上下坑，我們擔心他晚上會不會回來，大家做的都是危險的工作，不知道你哪天會出事，因此朋友間的情義和承諾特別重要。

情義和承諾的背後伴隨的叫「信任」。我知道我幫你做了什麼事，你以後一定會幫我做什麼，而且不必講出來。十多年前，我爸得到礦工的職業病──矽肺病住院，已經末期了，罩呼吸器，住加護病房，有一天我們去看他，等我們走了之後，他就從四樓打開窗戶跳樓。這對我的打擊很大，那天我記得剛好是颱風夜。他過世前跟我說：「我的喪事你放心，因為你爸爸
幫過很多人。」真的，那天晚上八點多我爸出事，我打電話給媽媽，消息一傳開，夜裡十點多，外頭大風大雨，我家客廳卻熱鬧的擠了二十幾個人，幫媽媽處理事情。

我爸那些朋友都已經五、六十歲，而且都跟我爸一樣有矽肺病，出殯那天卻堅持要合力把棺木抬上山去。原木棺很重，十幾個人這樣撐著，我站在他們後面，看到他們的腳在階梯上顫抖，一步步踩著上山……直到今天想到那情景，還是會忍不住哭出來。

我們九份那個老村莊，民國六十幾年就沒了，消失三十多年了，但我最近還要去吃我媽的換帖會，之前也有我爸的換帖會；村子沒了，但關係還在。你當然會很珍惜這種感情。

２為什麼我們不再彼此信任？

這就是台灣人說的：「人啊，互相互相啦！」因為信任在裡面。有一天，人與人之間的信任感不見了，就不會輕易承諾什麼。現在這種傳統情感、承諾或是情義，慢慢沒有了。為什麼？我不知道，是社會慢慢進步，是政治操弄，還是大家都講謊話，承諾變得都是假的。現在的我不相信報紙寫的、電視播的，統統不相信。

想到有一次在街上遇到一個很久沒見面的朋友，哈啦一陣，臨走的時候他一本正經地說：哪天一起吃個飯吧？那時才五歲的兒子忽然問我說：「啊，他也沒給你電話、住址，你們要怎樣約吃飯？」連小孩都可以一言拆穿，大人啊都是嘴上講講而已的，攏係假的！

我後來發現一個很矛盾的現象，人與人的信任度沒有了，但人與人之間對舊有的最單純的情感，基本上還是眷戀的啊。

現在台灣人為什麼那麼渙散？回想以前的老時代，雖然很專制，但是他給你塑造一個很壞的敵人、萬惡匪幫、中共蘇聯……
這些敵人在「外面」，把共同仇恨丟在一個很遠的共同目標，大家在台灣可以彼此取暖，火苗也會旺一點。像是我們少棒打贏了，不管藍綠舉國歡騰。

可是到了有一天，這個敵人慢慢轉換了，轉換成「黨內」和「黨外」，轉換成國民黨和民進黨，兩邊鬥，敵人不在遠方，變成「敵人就在你身邊」。以前是共同對外，現在是往內切割，彼此跟自己先斬先剁。現在連火苗都分了，各人取各人的暖，這是不健康的。

你現在打開電視，不是藍的、就是綠的，沒有告訴我們一個遠的、要共同面對克服的目標。嘸嘛，台灣現在最缺乏的，就是看不到共同目的。

這幾年來，我最要好的朋友都因為政治的色彩而遠去，這是我人生最感慨的事。你那麼好的朋友，一起弄電影的，有一天你發現，啊，他們主動把你分成什麼類！也許有人錯想了我，我其實很簡單，只要我覺得你人不錯，那你叫我做什麼，我就OK。老實講，政治對我來講沒那麼偉大，政治能改變世界嗎？不多。但朋友對我很重要啊，而且各人有各人的政治選擇。
３每個族群各有憂苦，只是欠缺彼此瞭解我創作很在意溝通，這是我創作的態度。台灣就是有不同的人，你不知道我的故事，我也不知你的故事，我不知你的憂苦，你也不知我的憂苦，然後就用我自己的立場來猜測你。

我小時候覺得很幹，為什麼我們的老師跟警察都有配給？他們真好命！至少都有麵粉可以領。啊，我們怎麼沒有？後來長大才發現，他們也有他們的憂苦啊，如果早一點知道，不是可以省去不必要的猜忌。

我在九份長大，原本和老兵關係比較遠，還好我有當兵，我親眼目睹了老兵這個族群的故事，看到很多悲哀的細節，後來我參與了或寫了很多老兵電影的劇本，像《搭錯車》、《老莫的第二個春天》、《海峽兩岸》等。

我當兵時，和老士官長感情很好。我是營的行政士，領錢、管錢，總之是管柴米油鹽那一類的事。我們營長很嚴厲，叫我把老士官的安家費，直接匯入他們家戶頭，千萬不要手頭交給老兵，省得他們跑去「八三么」（軍中妓院）或者賭博用光光。有些台灣兵不愛聽他們講話，好奇心重的我卻會跟他們亂哈啦、聊天，我講到我父親如何辛苦，一聽他們也一樣，慢慢就
了解到，喔，這群人也有他們自己的故事。

民國64年，我退伍前的那一年，原本老兵不准結婚的規定，終於解禁了！我們營裡十幾個士官長、作戰官，全部一窩蜂趕著結婚。他們十八、二十歲來台灣的，到那時已四十幾快五十歲了，再不結就沒機會了，都到台東買太太。我每天忙著為他們寫「申報書」，新娘叫什麼，思想忠不忠貞啦，反正什麼都要寫。

《老莫的第二個春天》有一幕就是這樣，老兵拿出畢生積蓄，五疊百元鈔票往桌上砸下去，左右二疊啪地用山東腔說，「你他媽這是手！」再往下啪地砸二疊：「你他媽這是腳！」最後一疊往兩腳中間啪地砸下去：「這個你他媽就是B！」他們用這種心情買了個太太。你在旁邊聽，當然會心酸啊！後來我就很想寫老莫這個我遇到的故事。

我退伍時，作戰官很慎重地送我一張他和新婚太太的照片，背後很正式地寫著：「賀！念真光榮退伍，前途光明。」並且兩人還很正式地簽上名字，可見他多麼滿意結婚有家室。隔年，其實也才幾個月後，他們部隊來淡水，我去看他們，天啊，作戰官整個頭髮是白的，旁邊人噓小聲講，叫我絕對不要提到他太太，「跑掉了！」

我很shock！你看到那種狀態，感受到那種悲涼啊。他們年紀大了，好不容易娶了太太，有了家才會有歸屬感，可是太太又跑掉了。如果沒有了歸屬，他的夢永遠在那邊（大陸），而不會是這裡。很多老兵最後就是要有一個家、一塊田地，他要的就是一份歸屬嘛。

後來，我跟孝賢認識，他跟我講一句他爸爸說的話：「他們從來不會想到會死在這個南方的島嶼上。」他父親在光復不久就已經來台灣，寫信回老家，說台灣的自來水怎樣怎樣一開水龍頭都有水……他們沒有想到要在這裡待多久，買的家具不是藤的，就是竹子做的，沒想到會留下。

４改朝換代政治力粗暴的扭曲

政治是這麼殘暴現實，我父親有一句名言：「阿伊嗚ㄟ喔，一眠睹到ㄅㄆㄇ。」日本政權走了，國民黨來了，好像是一夕之間的事。對我父親那輩如此，對老兵也如此，人生都在一夜之間被政治力量扭轉了。

像我爸為什麼來挖金？因為故鄉的二二八經驗。那時九份的淘金客全是台灣各地來的人，出走的理由各不相同。我爸爸是一個不會講故事的人，他很少主動講他的人生，後來我才從很多親友破碎的資訊裡拼湊我的父親來九份的原因。

原來是二二八事件的時候，他在嘉義一家中藥行當學徒，店裡一個中醫師因故牽連，結果死掉曝屍三天，沒人敢去收屍。我爸爸不忍心，偷偷買了香燭金紙，遠遠祭拜他，後來他老闆知道了，不敢再留他，他只好離鄉背井出走。

他那時只有十五、六歲耶，算是很有膽量，也有點浪漫情懷吧！他一個人來到九份，在礦坑討生活。後來他入贅吳家，我因此才姓吳，我的弟妹姓連，他說這叫抽「豬母稅」。我記得小時候有一天，他帶我去山裡很遠很遠的山神廟，忽然有感而發說：「一隻鳥仔飛到鳥籠內。」那一代的台灣男人心裡很壓抑，滿腹苦衷，就連結束生命的方式都一樣。

在我父親心裡，他會覺得，不是都說是祖國嗎，這個祖國怎麼對我這樣？那種驚嚇和文化的落差，那種情緒會影響一輩子的耶！連外省菜都讓他討厭，好比麻婆豆腐啊，他覺得那是什麼菜，這是很奇怪的情緒，卻很真實。

政治既然這麼殘暴，我就覺得這些年輕搞政治的，明明知道過去老的政治人物把台灣的人、台灣的人性、台灣的心都搞得亂七八糟，但還去做一樣的事。

台灣人民有了民主，但不知道怎麼使用民主嘛。就像最近英國一個流浪漢中了樂透，他就去買古堡，還喝酒喝到掛，後來他終於發現這個彩券給他的，只是一個沒有用的古堡、一大堆空酒瓶，還有電視機和一堆A片而已。

現在民主的濫用是，不管你講什麼我都可以兇回去，這些都好像是民主理所當然的一部分。像網路上有些邊緣性格的人寫說：「吳念真也不是好貨啦，把他抓到土城去賣伏冒。」這些言論都不必負責，他也沒有搞清楚事情，自己爽一下就好了。

５我的工作就是「溝通」

台灣太少那種情感分享、平和理性的溝通。我小時候，因為文筆不錯，替村民讀信、寫信，村民還湊錢送我一支鋼筆，算是肯定我。教我寫信的師傅也是礦工，我從他身上看到一種典範，他把信裡傷人的字眼，改用另一種委婉的方式，向不識字的村人解釋。如一個在外地工作的姊姊想要嫁人，但她媽媽一直用弟妹還小要讀書拒絕，連續逼她分手三次，最後一次換男方寫信來講「虎毒亦不食子」，他就用讀信的機會，化解紛爭誤會。他把自己的知識貢獻給知識比他低的人，而不是反過來利用知識，去掠奪知識比他不足的人，我這輩子就認識他這個「知識分子」。

我除了讀信，還得常常為不識字的村民念報紙，而且要把一個搶案、分屍案，添油加醋，編得津津有味，如果編得不夠清晰完整，老人們會吐槽說：「唔對唔對，愛安捏安捏才對。」我又得重新順過一次。

我小時候讀信寫信、念報紙，就是一個溝通者。現在我是導演、拍廣告等等，如果我的工作算是媒體的一部分，那我的工作就是「溝通」。

對於我，我們這些朋友，我們做這些戲劇，就是很單純地想到，有沒有一件事是我們可以一起做到的。晚上可以看戲，看囝仔笑，就免看嚥氣的新聞，同時也可以看到台灣的希望。我們都希望，不管哪一群人在這塊土地都找得到自己的「歸屬」。這樣力量才會凝聚，才不是「軟膏膏」。

如果我們大人把台灣搞亂了、搞砸了、搞毀了，小孩沒有笑容，我們這一代拚死拚活「車拚」是為什麼？我們是不是看孩子高興歡喜，有笑容，這一切努力才會有動力？最後，我們能不能聽到一句：「爸爸，謝謝你！」

We settled in last night of Wednesday Nov.29th 2006 and I only spent 15 minutes from home to my office. Hurray~ So far, only few things are in place and will keep up after work and over the weekends. And also I'll need to do the walk through with Wayne, my soon-to-be-ex landlord, this Sunday. Just wanna make sure I'll get my whole deposit back^^ New place has huge bedroom with more bathrooms. Also the livingroom is bigger as well plus we still have a small yard outside of the kitchen for me to have a little vegetations, hahaha. Now we're waiting for the cable and internet service up and running. A House Warming Party will be thrown for sure^^ Dean @ work...

A Seasonal Greeting

It's getting a bit chillier every morning when I get out of my condo and head to work. After coming to America for 7 years I've been spoiled with good weather, minus the "rainy" season that falls year round. I grew up in Taiwan and the seasons are quite vague. We can only sense falls and summer as encountering typhoon and humid hot day!

I have turned in my customary sandals for socks and shoes, and stopped wearing shorts. We've started to turn the heat on at home last night and today we will have Chinese hot pot for dinner. What do you expect? We're Chinese, hahahaha~

We're getting ready to move to LBC as planned. We really looking forward to have a better life there with easier commute situation. And tomorrow will be my last day of spending 4 hours on the road between home and office, hurraaayyyy~

First one was taken last winter with no leaf on it and the second one was this spring, but it couldn't hold the weight of its green leaf and broke into half couple of weeks ago. Sorry to see it died and here's my farewell.............

too painful to write it twice so I just cut and paste the letter between my and my family,

Dear Mom and Dad,

I can't sleep so I came downstairs and write to you. I kno wit's painful but I believe you would like to know about what I decide to do to Sloppy.

It's been few days that Sloppy had the runs and I thought it was minor problem that sometimes he had different food. So we cut down the dog food portion and gave him some baked toast instead. He's fine and active as usual. But we found he's not even limping but dragging his read legs to do his "business" out side and I know something seriously happened. Since it's not a easy task to move him to the vet clinic so we called in a mobile bet in our area for a regular check-up on Monday. Thanks to Belinda that she was the one who can shared my work load and called the vet for me as I still needed to go to work. The condition of Sloppy was good at his age but the spine problem. It's too complicated for him to go through all the check-ups and exam at his age and the best solution is to give him steroid to easy his pain and get him mobilized again. In the mean time that vet gave him the steroid shot and he also told me to consider to put him to sleep to stop his suffer and pain. I felt numb and didn't know what to do at the moment. I asked the vet to do the blood test to see if there's any disease or cancer so I can have some time to think it over. I did and I talked to other dog lover and vet to firm my final dicision. I would put him to sleep to save his dignity and stop his suffering from pain and shame.

It was rough for me since Monday morning and it was so hard for me to say "I would let him go". I had Belinda to make to call to vet and have him come back here to perform the "action" today. Yes, I would need to let him go. I went to work for few hours in themorning then come back home around 2 p.m. awaiting vet to come and do it. It was the longest wait in my life, even it's longer than those days I spent on the ship......

After I signed the agreement with vet and also wrote the check for all the application and service. I was holding Sloppy's palm and rubbing his head to shift his attention from the injection. It was quick. It only took about 5 second to finish the shot and he went quietly and peacefully. At the whole time, I took off my sunglasses and looked at him straight in the eyes and conformt him from the tention that was formed between me and the vet. He looked quiet and calm after the shot and I was the one crying like a crazy person. We then wrapped him into a clean tarp and put him into vet's van. Sloppy will be cremated and return to me in a week. Sorry Mom that I didn't listen to you because it's painful to let him go alone. I will keep his ash in my place and bring it back to Taiwan if possible. And I will not let him sitting in my garage alone, I will find a good place to put him and tell all my friends about how good he had been........and always been.

As life goes on, I will return to work tomorrow morning and be back on my life again. Please do not worry about me and you two should be happy for Sloppy that he's @ a better place without any pain and suffer. Sloppy will always lives in my heart forever. My wild guess is that he's now staying with uncle in heaven and watching TV together^^

I'd save all the details and I will tell you two again when we meet. I'm really looking forward to see you two again in July.

Dad, the reason I didn't call you because I don't wanna interupt your heavy workload and hopefully you can tell from what I ahve said previously. Sorry.

Mom, please don't be too sad about this and I'm totally fine after few good tears.

I also called Stephen Wen about Sloppy since he's been a very good friend to Sloppy ever since. And I'm so happy to hear Stephen is getting married this September!!! I'll be back for his wedding for sure!!!

Sloppy came to Aermca with my father in 1997 December. He's been around since 1990 October when I brought him home.

He was bron with another 10 puppies on Sep.12, 1990. Then he's with me ever since. I took him back with me the second year after I came to America. We never apart more than 10 days.

He's been a great brother to me. Why? I guess he's always around and never complain about me. Why? Cuz I treated him as a human being and never treat him as a baby or a spoiled lil kid ever. We all find something to do when we're in the same room and we walk a little every now and then. Just like 2 friends, more of brothers I would say.

I never feel he would leave me since he's been with me for mroe than 15 years and never thought today would come. But it happened on Monday morning.

Before hand he's got a lil runs cuz we gave him some cooked meat last Saturday. Then we cut down his food and gave him more water for his lil problem. We found him not just limping but dragging his rear legs to finish his duty in Monday morning. I thought it's because his artheritis and spine problems that bothers him since 2003 and it would go away soon enough before we really think it would have gone so serious......

We called in the vet and the condition wasn't good. We're told we should consider some permenant solution to end his pain and endless suffer. to put him to sleep.

We struggled enough for shirtly 24 hours and decided to call in the vet again to perform that darn procedure. my eyes are still swelling like 2 huge apple hanging down from my forehead about everything I can do within my limited power to solve his illness and pain.....

too painful to write and can't type with tears in my eyes.......will be back

I finally realize that I can't make enough to support my ass in States any more, lousy job with only benifit of staying here isn't good enough for me. I was trying to make more money and so far I'm out of luck.

but should I stay more till my visa expires or should I get my ass out of here as soon as possible? I'm not bitching here like I need any help or anything related to that, but what I'm saying is is there any job out there that I can switch and still sponsor my status? who knows, monster can't find it, F it~

now I need to sit down and talk to myself about all the drills that has been going on in my tiny brain for years again. I know there's no problem to get up and leave but the thing is how am I gonna know that I can't get what I want here and I can get it from somewhere else? Jobis job, you will need to get a job wherever........and I also know this long time ago that I have advantage of language and skills that China and Taiwan might need. things are complicated, I don't wanna go back because I had enough of living in Taiwan(not that I don't appeciate where I 'm from, is the environment that I can't get used to) and I like here better. Friends, scenes, weather
and everything are great to me. I don't know, I don't mind, moving, I don't mind working 12 hours a day as showing my deeds, I don't mind driving 30 miles to work and come back home, I don't mind learning and taking orders, as long as it's worth it.

Life is tough, decision is tougher....have a great weekend!

my job is getting busier and busier now adays and just need lots of time to participate ..... and we moved to Ontario.....California last July and I'm getting used to this place bit by bit....

honestly, it smells like dairy farm or you can say it's like zoo.....but it's quite nice around this biz area, even this lil post office acrossing the rail road, and you can see the view along the rail and the airport is right across the 10 freeway....

I have bunch of interesting(I would say nice and pretty but nah, that's not everyone feel though...hahahaha)
